0:00 Location: Planten un Bloomen, a Jade botanical oasis of a park, in the inner-city of Hamburg, near Stephansplatz. Raoul, a man in his late thirties, with dark sunglasses and an emerald colored hoodie is standing in front of a waterfall playing the first notes of the traditional Georgian Folk song \"შირაქის ველზე მივდივარ\" (Traveling the Shiraki Plain) on his ukulele. With this work I want to express the beauty and the vitality of animals. I hope people will recognize themselves in the animal instead of looking away in times of factory farming. The pig reflects the joy and the life’s energy that every being has. Together with my boyfriend Dirk-Jan Schrander I created it. n October 2018 the pig’s journey began through the Netherlands: Amsterdam (Westerpark), Nijmegen, The Hague, Haarlem, Eindhoven, Utrecht, Arnhem, Groningen, Maastricht, Leiden, Amsterdam (Museum Square) and Delft, Leeuwarden. Then the pig went on to Belgium: Antwerp, Brussels and Kortrijk. During the winter and spring she stayed in a meadow in the South of the Netherlands. Last August and September 2020 she was exposed in Hamburg in cooperation with Business Improvement District (BID) Dammtorstraße. ‘Ode to the Pig’ is also the start of the European Campaign, ‘End the Cage Age’.
