Brian Boru's March is one of the oldest known Irish melodies. The tune has become a staple of Celtic music and is still widely played by traditional musiciens, as well as having been recorded by The Chieftains, Horslips, Alan Stivell, Cecile Corbel and Loreena McKennitt. Elle a été écrite au XIème siècle, en commémoration de la dernière bataille de Brian Boru, haut roi d'Irlande. Brian Boru, ou Brian Borumba, a régné sur le pays pendant 39 ans, de 940 à 1014, après avoir uni les différents clans irlandais. Il a 89 ans quand son armée affronte les Vikings en 1014; ses guerriers gagnent le combat mais il est assassiné sous sa tente. Cette marche tour à tour puissante et mélancolique est un air à la fois de victoire et de deuil.
