Tulasi (sanskrit तुलसी, tulasi IAST), or the Basil thin-colored (Latin Ocimum tenuiflorum), or the Basil sacred (Latin Ocimum sanctum). It is widely used in cookery and in the medical purposes, in particular in Ayurvedic medicine. It is esteemed as a sacred plant in a number of traditions of Hinduism, in particular in Vaishnavism where tulasi worship as Lakshmi's embodiment (in traditions of Krishnaism — Radha) taken the plant form. Leaves of a tulasi are daily used in ceremonial practice. From branches of a tulasi turn a beads (kanhimala) which is sacred attribute of Vaishnavites, prayer beads (japa-mala). In translation from Sanskrit the word "tulasi" means "incomparable".
