After 35 years of chains, Kaavan has officially entered Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary! This elephant has been through so much, tonight in his new enclosure, he can finally rest easy. Tomorrow he will meet his two curious neighbors and start his integration into his new herd. It will be the first time the “World’s Loneliest Elephant” will have a family. Kaavan is home.
Kaavan is currently en route to Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary, and is on the last leg of his journey following a 2 hour stopover in Delhi! Here are some pictures from inside his plane! His dedicated FOUR PAWS International team is right there by his side every step of the way. Especially his best friend Dr Amir! Upon arrival Kaavan will be housed in a lovely enclosure next to these two beautiful ladies! These gorgeous faces will be the first thing he sees upon waking up in his new home! Kaavan’s two new friends will be with him to help him adjust to sanctuary life before being moved into his large jungle with a herd. It will be the first time he has seen another of his kind since his lifelong partner, Saheli, died from gangrene in front of his eyes in 2013. We are sure it will be a beautiful but bittersweet moment for him.Hey all! Dr. Samar here, thank you all for all the love you sent for my petition update! I’m so excited to share that Kaavan is being moved RIGHT now! Here’s a short video from this monumental event shared live by our good friend Anees Jillani, one of Kaavan’s lawyers! Dr Amir and the lovely Four Paws team makes an appearance towards the end, and according to them, all is going well! Kaavan has been calm and is doing well currently in his crate, looks like all that crate training has paid off! The next stop for Kaavan is an army airport base close by, he will be accompanied at all times by a team of trained professionals including his best friend Dr Amir and will hopefully be in Cambodia by tomorrow!

We fought 5 long years, we wrote petitions, did tweet storms, thunderclaps, hundreds of posts, trips, calls, knocked on all possible doors, reached out to media, worked non stop until the very end! So many amazing people joined in to make this become a reality! And now Kaavan is in the best most loving hands possible!
No words can truly express the happiness!
