Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili
Born in 1968, she lives in Tbilisi and works as a writer, translator and cultural journalist. She shares her literary talent with younger generations through teaching literature and creative writing at Ilia State University in Tbilisi. Her expressive and emotional tales and short stories about men and women, love and hate, sex and disappointment are somewhat outré and sarcastic, but it is this that gives them their appeal. She ‘shoots from the hip in these intimate tales of sometimes judgmental, often imperfect, but always likable women’. Kordzaia has won various Georgian literary prizes. The author is also known for her successful translations from German into Georgian, including The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke and Die Liebhaberinnen (Women as Lovers) by Elfride Jelinek; the latter was awarded a prize for best translation by Goethe Institut Tbilisi. Her work has been translated into many languages.
