Born in 1986 in the remote village of Khevsureti, which has only 50 inhabitants and is located in a high mountainous region of Georgia, Liqokeli is a rising star of the contemporary Georgian literary scene. Her poetic voice is very distinctive and original – just as her origins. Her sensible texts are compassionate towards different creatures and even objects. Lia started writing at the age of twenty-five. A young poetess with an absolutely novel vision and style, she brought about a new trend, not framed in any well-established clichés. In 2013, the Sunje publishing house brought together all her poems and published her debut book under the title The Laughter of Devi’s Wife (Devi is a Georgian mythological character similar to the European giant). Liqokeli’s debut book was highly anticipated by the Georgian audience and won the Saba literary award the following year. The writer is prolific at writing short fiction (prose) and has won the Tsero literary prize two times. Recently, her poetry collection The Laughter of Devi’s Wife was published in Sweden by the Smockadoll publishing house. Several verses from the collection have been included in the Georgian anthology Ich aber will dem Kaukasos zu, which was published in Germany by the Pop Verlag publishing house in 2015.
