This 1-3 day hike in Upper Racha is one of our favourite hikes in Georgia. Udziro Lake sits at 2800 m, and on a clear day you have fantastic views of peaks Shkhara, Tetnuldi, and even Ushba. It's possible to do a day hike to Udziro Lake from Glola, but splitting the hike over 2 or 3 days is a great option, camping at the lake and enjoying the sunset and early morning views. We started in Shovi and ended in Glola, camping below Geske Pass on the first night, and at Udziro Lake on the second night.
The best time to hike to Udziro Lake is between July and September. We hiked in late August. You need to be completely self-sufficient as there are no shops or accommodation options on the trail. The closest town accessible by public transport is Oni, about 30 minutes drive south. We stayed at the amazing Family Hotel Gallery in Oni the night before and after our hike and highly recommend it!
