Protected areas in Georgia have more than 100 year history. The first protected area – Lagodekhi Strict Nature Reserve was created in 1912.
Over the years, the size and number of Protected Areas increased.
Today, there are 88 Protected Areas and their total area is 596 156 ha, which is 8.57 % of the country’s territory.
„დაცული ტერიტორია“ არის სპეციალური სტატუსის მქონე ტერიტორია, რომლის მიზანია ტერიტორიის ფიზიკური მახასიათებლების, ბიომრავალფეროვნებისა და კულტურული მემკვიდრეობის დაცვა. დაცული ტერიტორია მოიცავს სახელმწიფო ნაკრძალს, ეროვნულ პარკს, ბუნების ძეგლს და ა.შ.
საქართველოში დაცულ ტერიტორიებს 100 წელზე მეტი ხნის ისტორია აქვს. პირველი დაცული ტერიტორია – ლაგოდეხის სახელმწიფო ნაკრძალი შეიქმნა 1912 წელს და ამ დროიდან მოყოლებული, ვაგრძელებთ საქართველოს ბუნების დაცვას.
წლების განმავლობაში, დაცული ტერიტორიების მასშტაბი და რაოდენობა გაიზარდა. დღესდღეობით, სულ 88 დაცული ტერიტორიაა და მათი საერთო ფართობი შეადგენს 596 156 ჰა-ს, რაც ქვეყნის ტერიტორიის 8.57 %-ია.
