69 - The Triumphal March Towards The Sun.
69 was a Georgian rock band founded in 1989 by Ucha Chachkhiani, just before the demise of Soviet Union. Functioning in hyperturbulent times, the group had to disband several times, but came back again in 1996 to release two albums full of great melodic rock, with influences ranging from The Beatles-inspired psychedelic to alternative rock influences that permeated Georgian scene at the time.
Their sensational debut, recorded in early-to-mid 90s, sounds as if John Lennon went to his top songwriting form and attempted to make an art rock album. More than half of the material here can be deemed as instant classics. The remainder, even if simpler, never fails to entertain. This album, intelligent, socially conscious and romantic at the same time, is one of the best things Georgian rock scene has to offer from the period when light went on for only three hours a day and all the music appeared from literally nowhere.
