Today’s video is about the step by step construction of Qvevri / Kvevri - the vessel used for traditional winemaking. primitive technology video.
This is the first full-fledged Qvevri-making video in the world
In this documentary you can watch all stages of Qvevri-making step by step from kneading the clay to baking Qvevri.
Entire process of Qvevri-making takes 100-120 days: construction takes 50-60 days (after constructing one floor, it’s necessary to let it dry for 4-5 days). There are 40-50 days (depending on season) needed in order to fully dry the vessel. It’s necessary to bake Qvevri on 1000 degrees by Celsius for 7-10 days.

Kvevri (Georgian: ქვევრი [kʰvɛvri]; also known as churi (ჭური) in Western Georgia) are large earthenware vessels used for the fermentation, storage and ageing of traditional Georgian wine. Resembling large, egg-shaped amphorae without handles, they are either buried below ground or set into the floors of large wine cellars.
