This beautiful composition by ნარასī მēჰათā ჯī (narasī mēhatā jī), is known as ვაიṣṇავა ჯანა თō (vaiṣṇava jana tō). It is written in Gujarati language, and is one of his many famous works. ნარასī მēჰათā ჯī was a 15th century Hindu philosopher from ვაიṣṇავა სამფრადāyა (vaiṣṇava sampradāya), of Hinduism. His first name Narasī is an abbreviation of Nara Singha (an avatāra of Bhagavān Viṣṇu). He was born in Bhavanagar region of Gujarat in Bharata (India). This beautiful song describes the qualities of Vaiṣṇavas (Devotees of Bhagavān Viṣṇu), and was very dear to Mahatma Gandhi. Many people also refer to this song by its opening verse, i.e., ვაიṣṇავა ჯანა თō თēნē ქაჰიyē ჯē, ფīḍა ფარā'ī ჯāṇē რē (vaishnav jan to tene kahiye je, peed parayi jaane re).
